Welcome to JournalismGIS

by Robert Boos

Hello, and welcome to JournalismGIS.com.

My name is Robert Boos, and I am the editor for this site. My job here is to make this site as valuable a resource it can be for journalists who want to tell stories using GIS and data visualization techniques. This site will look at ways journalists are already using GIS, and pointing out stories that could have been told better or more completely using a a GIS component.

The founders of this site are enthusiastic about journalism and GIS. We’re interested in the pursuit of public interest journalism and data visualization using GIS. But this is also a community.

If you’re a journalist, we hope you find our site a valuable resource for your projects and stories. If you are a GIS professional, we hope you are able to use this site to educate journalists in this very technical field, and possibly even collaborate with journalists working on GIS-assisted projects. Andrew Long and I will be populating the site with tutorials and blogs on how to use GIS as a storytelling tool, but this is a learning experience for us all around and we look to you to tell us what you need and to keep us informed of what’s currently being used.
